Rebank

Financial innovation, technology advances and social changes are sending shockwaves through the financial services industry. In an age of increasingly rapid change, important questions, debates and developments are unfolding before our eyes. These ideas, and the choices we make in response to them, will shape our future. Technology is vastly powerful, creating new industries in response to – or sometimes in anticipation of – changing customer expectations. Rebank explores the trends, developments and challenges that define our age and shape the future role of money, banking and financial services.

Today, we have the honor of connecting with Azeem Azhar, the brain behind the Exponential View newsletter and podcast.

How to describe Azeem... Thinker, writer, advisor, technologist and former founder. After studying Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford, Azeem has pursued a career spanning journalism, venture investing, machine learning, natural language processing, entrepreneurship and advisory.

In addition to his work on the Exponential View, Azeem is an advisor to the CTO of Accenture as well as a number of AI companies, including Onfido and re:infer, both of which we've had on the podcast. He's also a member of the World Economic Forum's Global Future Council on Digital Economy & Society and an investor and advisor through Anthemis and Kindred Capital

In 2009, Azeem founded PeerIndex which processed social data using machine learning to identify novel, actionable signals. The company was acquired by BrandWatch in 2014.

I'd highly recommend everyone subscribe to Azeem's insanely insightful newsletter, the Exponential View. He also runs a podcast by that name which has featured some incredible guests, including author Yuval Harari and economist, investor and former Warburg Pincus Vice Chairman Bill Janeway.

Check out Azeem's work at exponentialview.co.

Michael Kent is the founder and CEO of Azimo, a fast-growing money transmission business.

Michael first joined us a over a year ago, in episode 34, and it was fun to connect again.

As the founder of Azimo, and before that of Small World FS, another money transmission business, Michael is extremely well placed to talk about the founder's journey.

In the second instalment of our Founder's Sessions series, we explore the first few months of Azimo, from idea to product to traction, in what I think is a highly insightful discussion.
